Smiled from ear to ear

Dixie,
Wonderful news, the cards arrived! The timing of the cards was perfect. One of our Soldiers was looking for a birthday card for his son and had just returned from the PX. As he was telling me the cards at the PX were out of stock, I couldn’t help but think about the wonderful news I was going to deliver. Sure enough, as soon as I showed the Solider the new cards, he smiled from ear to ear and wanted me to share his thanks with you. So, thank you on behalf of C/5-159th!

The cards are wonderful and bringing smiles to Soldiers all around the world; thank you Operation Write Home. You are a dedicated team and produce exceptional cards for us to send home to our loved ones!

Thanks for your unwavering support,

Your cards really ease the homesickness

Dear Sandy,
Yay for more cards! Thank you. I hope that y ou have a wonderful Halloween. What is Ciara going to be? Our office is all decorated and we are inundated with candy corn. We're on more holiday closer to being home! What are your plans for Thanksgiving? How about Christmas? As much as I'd like to be home, I am looking forward to spending the holidays with my Marines. Your cards really ease the homesickness. Thanks again!

As a military spouse I am grateful

Hello,

I just received a Halloween card from my family member who is deployed in Afghanistan.  Although we are able to talk occasionally it was nice to receive a card from her!!  What an awesome service your organization provides for our soldiers.  As a military spouse I am grateful to know that there are people who support our deployed service members.  Thank you so much for all you do!

You Rock!

Dixie,

Thank you for sending these wonderful cards to us...They are so nice!
Just wanted to let you know that the ladies are doing wonderful things!
Thank you again,

C. H.

Other messages in the card, "You ladies rock!" and, "Thank you sooo very much!"

Something Brand New

Dixie,
A little note to let you know the box of cards arrived a few days ago.
My colleagues are already picking through them and for some they are
something brand new.

On a personal level - thank you for tucking the sunflower photo in the
card as well. It was immediately placed on the wall by my desk and
serves as a reminder of the beautiful things that await my return home.
When we lived in Italy a few years ago, we would sometimes pass by huge
fields of sunflowers in Umbria and Tuscany. Those sights made me want to
stop the car and just sit a while to enjoy some Italian fare and a glass
of red wine.

Take care and be well.
Very respectfully,

Putting Smiles on 138 Airmen!

Dixie,
I want to tell you THANK YOU!! I have both boxes of cards you sent and the
troops love them. You and the volunteers have put a smile on at least 138
Airmen. They love the cards and I see them picking through the boxes every
day.

Also, I got the cards that were written by all the volunteers. They were a
nice touch. You should see some pictures come your way soon.

I want to personally thank you for your cards and the pictures of the deer and
sunflower. I will hold on to them forever. You are amazing and the things
you do are appreciated. Take care and thank you.

A smile on a soldier's face

Sandy,
Thank you sooo  much for all the cards and support you have given to us here while deployed. You all put a smile on a soldier's face every time I open a new box of cards. Please pass on our thanks to all the many volunteers that have given of their time, creating such great work.

We should be leaving here in about 90 days or so. I will be sure and pass on your card to anyone else that may be here in Iraq.

Once again, thank you!

Thank You for Lifting Our Spirits

Hi Dixie,

I just wanted to say "Thank You" from the bottom of my heart for the beautiful cards. I've shared them with my troops, and they absolutely love them as well! The Halloween cards were a huge hit with my nieces and nephews!
In today's "digital age" where the art of the hand-written communication seems to have been lost, these cards are certainly a special way of delivering our love home. Thank you for lifting our spirits through your work.

The written word will disappear

Sandy, I can personally tell you that it is now easier to find one of your beautiful unique cards than it is these days to find a MRE to eat, much less to make a card out of! So I have not decided that it is a good thing yet as I would love for all our troops to get home, but if we aren't, then by the grace of God, we have gorgeous cards to send home to all our loved ones, friend, family or foe! The written word will disappear one day soon, but with your help, maybe it will be around a lot longer! Thanks for all you do for us out here. May God bless each volunteer and the OWH staff!

More excited about the cards than the phone calls

I just want to let you know the guys here are loving the cards. I bet 5 go out a day! I've heard stories about how their kids look for them in the mail and get more excited about the cards than the phone calls!

It really is a great organization - thanks from all of us!

Perfect and right on time!

Package was dearly needed

My son sent me a pretty card from your organization. His unit was a combat infantry unit without electricity, showers, a mess hall,.etc., so your package was dearly needed.

God Bless your volunteers for their generosity.
Sincerely,

Thank you again for the cards, letters, encouragement and pictures

Good day Sandy,

You are absolutely right! I am nearing the end of my tour and I wanted to let you know before you sent another box. I just received the Thanksgiving box; the cards were beautifully & thoughtfully crafted as usual.

We, the Marines and I, really appreciate what you and Operation Write Home have provided to support the troops. Thank you again for the cards, letters, encouragement and pictures of you and Pvt. Ciara. You two look great by the way!

I’m making arrangement to send a donation electronically through my bank. I hope it helps.

I have passed your name and info on to a LCpl R., so you’ll probably be hearing from her soon. She really liked the bubble wrap card and was very interested in the program. ;-)

Very Warm Regards,

Cards to Greece!

Dear Dixie,

My address is correct and that would be totally awesome. Here in Kalamata Greece we don't have any American stores or a way to purchase cards. I work with the Post Master and plan on putting the box on the counter for everyone to grab. We have about 180 something military from Davis-Mothan (AZ), Moody AFB (GA), Nellis (NV), and USAFE bases, Ramstein, Lakenheath, Aviano, Spangdahlem, and Mildenhall. I was in Arifjan Kuwait last year from July 2010 to Jan 2011 and my Army counterpart received your boxes. Thank you so much

Hero has a baby on the way!!!

I just wanted to drop a line to relay my thanks to you and all of the people who contributed to creating the latest set of Thanksgiving cards. As I am sure you are aware, the holidays are a very emotional time for those away from loved ones. For some, this is their first deployment and their first time they are away from all things familiar. Anything that can lessen this is truly appreciated by the Soldiers,Sailors, Airmen, Marines, and civilians. My wife and I are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our baby. My second child (we chose to wait to see if it was a boy or girl) will be born in approximately 2 weeks. I am lucky enough to have my R&R coincide with this and hopefully will be there for the birth. My wife's father, a retired Air Force Senior Master Sergeant, will beflying in from New Hampshire so this will be a mini family reunion. My parents are currently retired in Thailand and are planning to visit when the deployment is over in March. Once again, thank you and the others for the cards, all of the well wishes, and your prayers. It is greatly appreciated by all of us here. These cards bring great joy and happiness to all our family members and friends back home. Take care.

Make life more bearable

Dear Madam/Sir:
I am a Department of the Army Civilian assigned to a Special Operations Task Force in Afghanistan. The organization that I work for has about 180 DA Civilains working at many separate locations in the Theater at the Brigade level and Battalion level.

I would be very happy to distribute a couple of boxes of cards from your organization to the other DA Civilians who work with me throughout Afghanistan.

I intend to see about getting my granddaughter's Girl Scout and Brownie troops involved in making cards or letters for your organization.

Thank you for everything that you do to make life more bearable for soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who are deployed away from home.

I wish I could have gotten on film

Dear Sandy,

I wish I could have gotten on film the reaction of the 12 people in our office when your first box arrived at Balad, Iraq three weeks ago. Young or old, male or female, single or married - it made no difference. Everyone was so impressed (and grateful) for the gift we had been given!

It should be noted too that, of the 350 cards, we are down to less than 75!

Along with that box I also remember there being a note saying another box would be shipped in about six weeks. And that is why I am writing today.

Due to drawdown of forces here, we are being relocated by the end of October. Therefore, I wanted to ask if it would be possible to change the 'ship-to' address of the next box.

With much thanks,
Maj M.W.

I will anxiously wait for the next package

Sandy,
I got the package today!! AWESOME...THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I haven't made it through the whole box yet, but the ones I have seen are amazing! I truly appreciate it!
Here are two pictures for you. The one in uniform is SPC M.C. and she is deployed with me. The other one, is me in our physical fitness uniform. You are welcome to what ever you choose with the pictures, we just wanted you to be able to put a name to our faces ; ) Thank you again, I will anxiously wait for the next package ; )

SPC N.V.

Could we get another box or two?

We want to thank you very much for the one box of greeting cards you sent last week. We have already run out of them, our troops have been sending them out to family and friends. If we could, could we get another box or two? This is such a wonderful way for our troops and wounded warriors to keep in touch with family. Thank you again for all your support!
 Msgt C.D.

Thanks so much for putting these cards together

Hello!

Greetings from Bagram, Afghanistan! I just wanted to drop a quick note and say THANK YOU for the great cards! Every week I pick a couple out for my 9 y/o daughter back home. I usually write in a joke or print out/send a puzzle of some kind to go with it, and she absolutely loves it. Thanks so much for putting these cards together for us all to use and enjoy!

Thanks!

The cards and letters

On our Facebook page:

I just wanna say to this whole organization thank you for all u do. I received my package today and with all the cards and letters that were in there, they touched so many of my fellow soldiers and myself, so from the Soldiers of the 194th CSSB thank you and God bless.
-PFC C.A.

His mother-in-law said: "My son in law that is stationed in Korea just received a box from Operation Write Home thanks to meeting Sandy at the crop. I would like to encourage you guys to make cards with Any Soldier notes in them. My son in law and his unit loved these the most!"

It was like Christmas!

Hello Dixie,

We received another wonderful box of cards today! Thank you very much.
I was thinking the other day how quickly we all went through that first
box. To receive another one completely surprised me. Everyone in my
office acted like it was Christmas. Fortunately here in Afghanistan, we
can mail letters back to the States for free. It makes it so much
easier to keep in touch with our families, when we can quickly fill out
a cute/beautiful card and send it on its way. Thank you again.

Thank you for your thoughtfulness and prayers. It's people like you who
make this sacrifice worthwhile.

Dangerous around here when the OWH box of cards arrive

I'm glad you mentioned in your letter that you would send twice as many Christmas cards in the next box. It is getting dangerous around here when the OWH box of cards arrive and there are not enough cards for a specific holiday to go around. Everyone absolutely LOVES these cards. It has gotten so bad I have ladies from my church requesting me to send their friends a card so they can have one. They really are gorgeous and unbelievably professional in design, content, and color scheme. I cannot wait to see what you have in store for Christmas. I just hope I am in the area and not out on mission when the box arrives...smile. We had a new Soldier arrive from the states and she saw the box of cards on the table. Like me she had never heard of Operation Write Home. We both were deployed to Iraq before this deployment and never heard of you...for shame. Thank you again Kris...you and your organization are much appreciated.

Send Our Last Box to.....HAWAII !!!

Thank you so much Dixie. The Marines and I really appreciate all the love and support that you've shown us during this deployment. The plan is for the majority of us to be home by Thanksgiving...yea. I would however like to receive the box of cards and hand them out to the Marines when we return to Hawaii. That way they can mail them out to family and friends upon our arrival. Please let me know if this is possible. If so you can mail them to my address which is below. You truly have been a blessing for us and the cards have been put to great use by all of us out here. I will pass on to the Marine unit that replaces us your information in hopes that they would like their Marines to enjoy this benefit. Again let me know if you can mail our last box back to Hawaii (where we are stationed) and I will pass on your info to the incoming unit next month as well as shoot him your email address. Thanks and God Bless Dixie.

Even made cards in Afghanistan

Sandy,
Thank you for the selection of cards. It is nice for the other Soldiers to have something so creative to send home to their loved ones. I usually pick a few for myself to send home to Laura.

In 2009 we were both deployed together to Bagram, Afghanistan. She is now out of the Army and attending Nursing school in Clarksville, TN. She enjoys making cards too in her spare time. There are some photos on her blog from our last deployment. She even made cards in Afghanistan.
Some of her cards were published in "Cards" magazine.

Thank you,
SFC V.O.

I'm grateful to know that there are people like you

I wanted to say thank you very much for the box of cards! My wife is also an Army pilot and currently stationed in Baghdad, Iraq. Being that I'm stationed in Bagram, Afghanistan, she sends me a card a week to tell me she loves me. Now I can return the gesture.
As for the box of cards, drawings, etc. I work in a Joint Operations Center. I set the box out for all service members and I left them out for all to grab.
The Soldiers were genuinely impressed with the quality and the time put into the beautiful cards.I can't say thanks enough! I'm grateful to know that there are people like you and others back home willing to take the time for such a caring and supportive way to help us. God bless you all. All the Best!

Thanks for Everything!

I would just like to let you know that I received the box of cards and express my deepest gratitude! Thanks for everything! Half of my unit is here in (Camp) Virginia, and the other half in Buehring, so I'll distribute the cards here and then take the rest to our hq. I'll write an email containing comments from all of my friends as soon as I get the cards distributed! Thanks again!!!

Needs the BIG Box!

Good Morning Dixie,

I'm so glad you emailed me because I went on your website recently to try and find a way to update my information. I recently changed locations, so I wanted to send you my new mailing address and also ask if I can increase the amount that I receive to the next larger size since I know have ALOT more Soldiers that are being assigned in very remote areas and your cards will significantly improve their morale. I've asked for pictures, so I will send some soon.

Thank you so much for what you and your ladies are doing, it really means a lot to us.

Sincerely yours,
Y.V.

Most thoughtful gift anyone could send

Operation Write Home,
I want to thank you on behalf of 2 groups of Marine and Sailors. My Afghanistan address was changed prior to leaving Camp Lejeune, NC. Somehow, the first box of cards that I requested still arrived at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan. Your box of cards was my first deployment package and I was so thrilled to see it waiting there. I shared the box with the 2nd Maintenance BN headquarters group. They all send you their big thanks. And just yesterday, a second box arrived at my new duty station!  Our entire Shock Trauma Platoon team and Army Dust Off team sends great thanks and appreciates the cards like they were a gift. One of my Corpsman said “thanks M’aam, this was the most thoughtful gift anyone could send.” I just want to let you know that you made 29 members of our team and their families very happy.
Wishing you the best from Afghanistan,
LCDR K.R.

Thank you for all the wonderful cards you have sent our clinic. They have gone to great use.
We will not be able to receive any more packages after this one so I just wanted to let you know how awesome it was to have the chance to use those handmade cards!
Your support is greatly appreciated by all.

Cards Do Not Go to Waste

Ms. Cochran,

Thank you for sending the beautiful cards. Rest assured that your cards do not go to waste. Any that we do not use I take to the Red Cross Annex and MED EVAC area at the hospital here on BAF to share with the other service members. Thanks for your support.

WCD bloghop! AnyHero Christmas card

Welcome to the Hero Blog stop on the hop! We hope you're getting inspired by all you're seeing....if you don't have enough motivation yet, go check out other posts here on this blog. They're from our HEROES!

One question we get a lot: What is an AnyHero Christmas card? It's a holiday greeting FOR a hero, and is sent during the holiday season! These can be sent in until Nov 30th - we need time to get them packed up in boxes so they get to our heroes in time. Christmas is the only season we actually ask for holiday themed AH cards - otherwise it's best to send generic anytime themes.

This card uses a darling image from Whippersnapper, and paper by BoBunny.

Enjoy the hop - go get inspired, and be sure to make an AnyHero card or two (or three, or four...) to put in your package of cards for OWH!
