Such a comfort to me

Dear Sandy,
I wanted to personally thank your organization for the cards that were supplied through a soldier, PFC S.M.

I am a single mom who writes to her family and friends a lot. It's such a comfort to me to let them know that I'm fine in such a creative way.

My children's dad is having problems, and my 15 and 16 year old are stuck in the middle of all of it. The creativity in those cards is beyond words. The deployment has been hard on them to say the least. I'm a Christian mom who knows every day that God loves me beyond all measure and truly supplies the needs of my family and me daily. My children will be staying with their dad this next year til June 2010 until my return. Your beautiful cards help to lessen the blow of all the challenges that exist for them at this time.

With a very sincere and thankful heart, God bless you all!

Made me laugh and smile!

This is Lesley T's daughter. I wanted to stop and say thank you for all the beautiful cards! Me and all the girls love them!

The first night I had found out some bad news about my grandma and after I got back, me and some of the girls were going through the cards and it made me laugh and smile! You and your crew are doing some wonderful things for us. Thank you so much!

MAJOR kleenex alert!

Dear Sandy (and all supporters of OWH),
I really want to thank you for the support you give us with finely crafted cards and letters of encouragement. Sadly, I admit you are much more diligent in your support to us than I have been in showing my gratitude. Please do not let my complacency dissuade your efforts. I assure you all of us are very appreciative and the collection of cards always goes quickly!

While I would like to share a picture of us with your cards, I work in a classified environment and we are not allowed portable electronic devices. My friends and family have greatly enjoyed the quality cards I've used to correspond with them, all the way back to Halloween. That's when I first came across your cards (in a package to a coworker. Shortly thereafter I started receiving cards from you and you remained a signature characteristic of my deployment. I kept the wonderful pictures of the loving and adorable Ciara on my desk throughout my tenure as well.

To tell you how your cards have made a difference to my family, I'd like to share with you a little about me. My husband and I have 3 daughters; 6, 12, and 16 years old. Our 6 yr old barely remembers my last deployment (thankfully) as she was only 2 then. Our older 2 girls are blind. With your tactile designs, I have written my girls quite often, always taking care and extensive deliberation over which cards they would enjoy most (best "feeling"). Of course for my youngest I chose cute cards, whether silly or pretty but all associated to aesthetically pleasing.

I took mid-tour leave in February, surprising our youngest for her 6th birthday, and found all of the cards I'd sent them! Each girl had her own growing collection that she treasured and could revisit whenever they missed me.

Your care and the support of your organization has also touched the hearts of my family and I am forever grateful to have shared this deployment with all of y ou. Many thanks!

Whole heartily thankful

I want to say thank you so very much for what you do for us troops. These boxes of cards that I have received were well sent home to the families of my battalion. I myself and my mother scrapbook and make cards so I personally know the hard work and effort that go into each individual homemade card. I am sorry that I have not sent an e-mail sooner. It gets pretty hectic here and personal time is at the minimum. I sent my kids and family cards every week. That is one thing that they grew to look forward to.

We are now on our last month here, and it couldn't come any sooner. Again, I speak for myself and many many others when I tell you that we are whole heartily thankful for your kindness!

Thanks a Million!

Hi Dixie,
I'm sorry I did not get back to you sooner.
I just got in late last night from R&R in Conn.
I received your box of beautiful cards.
They are extraordinaire !  Great artwork.
I appreciate the time it took to make them and sending them to me.
You are amazing !!!
They will not go to waste, I am a big card writer.
The PO lady comments on how much I write back home.
I will share them with the other guys too of course.
Thanks a million !!!

They were a big hit.

We received cards from you while I was at Baghdad USO. They were a big hit. Your work is beautiful and made with love.

USO, Camp Virginia

BIG thank you

I am deployed to Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan and recently stopped by our morale center. Inside I found a box of the most beautiful hand made cards I have ever seen! I took 2 that day to send home to family members but have been back 3 times already for more! I just wanted to send you guys a BIG thank you for the wonderful cards as well as the support and encouragement you have given to us troops! The ability to send back to the family and friends supporting us at home is an amazing gift that OWH has given us! Thank you so much!

Phones and internet will be taken away as well

Note with a request for cards:

Where my husband is stationed there are very few amenities and soon phones and internet will be taken away as well. So writing will be of huge importance for my husband and the men and women in his unit. Staying connected is very important, especially for the children they leave behind. Thanks so much for all you do for our service members.

Wonder cards

There was a box filled with your wonder cards here when we arrived. They are so amazing, everyone is trying to get their hands on them to send home. Thank You so much for what you do. It's such a morale booster!

Plans to Get Involved with OWH!

I received the box this weekend. We only get our mail every 10 days so it could have been sitting there for a bit. My unit has already torn through and taken many great cards to send home! What a great organization I must say!
I have news that I may be leaving Iraq very soon. I find out tomorrow after I see a doctor. If this happens then I would like to ask that you to please replace my name on the next box with "MAJ T.R." with the same address. She is another Major in my unit and will be sure the Soldiers get the cards.
If I do redeploy- I plan to get involved in Operation Write Home. I see that you are in Charlotte, NC...I live in So Pines, NC and work at Ft Bragg.
Thank you so much and I will let you know in the new few days what my plan is...thank you again for the cards- my Soldiers love them!

Knew my wife would be excited to receive one

I'm currently deployed to Iraq and wanted to thank you and all your volunteers for making and donating so many wonderful cards.

I recently came upon a stack of handmade cards and knew my wife would be excited to receive one, as she is a card maker and stamper herself. I quickly grabbed an entire stack to use over the next couple of weeks. My wife should be getting her first card any day now and I know she will love it!

Thank you again,
Capt L.O.M., USAF

Just in time!

We got the cards!!! Just in time!! Thank you SO much!! I really appreciate it!!

Thanks again!! You guys are really amazing!!!

Kleenex Alert!!

Hello Dixie,
My wife is currently 29 weeks pregnant, and she is on bed rest. She is getting lots of help, meals, child care, people driving her to appointments. I was feeling very inadequate about my role in helping her, until I realized I could send Thank yous. My wife has a hard time accepting help, and has told me, that me doing the thank yous is a huge help to her. Everyone here in my office has loved the cards. My wife and I recently celebrated our Anniversary(7 JUL). I started sending her a card each day, 21 days out to commemorate our 21 years. She told me she will always remember that. Please send me another box of cards, with a lot of thank you, and love cards. I sent this email yesterday to the info@operationwritehome address. I sent it from my other Army account, so I am not sure it went through.
Thank you for all you do.
CW4 D.D.

FYI- I'm on my way to the PO right now!!

Coming Home!

Hi Dixie!
I just wanted to let you know that I received the box of cards yesterday!  thank you all once again.  the cards are great.
Also, our redeployment has been set for the middle of August so I think this was the last box of cards.  Thank you once again for all of your support to our deployed troops!!

Email to Card Maker!

Ms Kathy,
Thank you very much for the effort you put in to make such wonderful
cards. I used one today to send a thank you note for a care package I
received. Without the support of people like you back home, our jobs
here would be a lot harder.
Thanks for all that you do for us.

Card to Card Maker!

Hi Dixie,

I just received an OWH card in the mail from my boss's son (image
attached - cardmaker anonymous).
The card reads -

"Greetings from Iraq! I hope this card finds you and your family well.
Thank you so much for passing my contact information to Operation Write
Home. My detachment absolutely jumped at the chance to write home on these
beautiful hand-made and heartfelt cards. I know our families at home truly
appreciate Operation Write Home as well. Your kindness meant a lot to
the troops out here and I am forever grateful for what you do for us.
God Bless.
P.S. Try to keep my dad in-line while I'm gone.
:-) M.M."

Made my day!

My unit was happy to get them

I received both boxes of cards today. Thank you! My unit was happy to get them. I took the one box over to the Wounded Warriors. They pass on their thanks also. The cards all look great. I can't imagine how long it took you all to put together that many cards, but I do know they
will be put to good use.

Thanks again. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

The only problem I see

Hello Operation Write Home,

Task Force Biometrics received our box of cards today and I must say they are absolutely gorgeous. I sent out the word that the cards were here and before I knew it everyone has swarmed the table to get cards to send home. As you advertise on your website "now no one has an excuse for not writing home to loved ones and friends." But first I wanted to write to you to let you know how much these beautiful cards are appreciated. The level of detail and attention on each card is amazing. These cards look professional and would cost a small fortune if sold on the market. The letters are great as well. Thank you for the kind words and good thoughts. It is always nice to know someone is praying for you.

I can't stop looking at them. The only problem I see is that they are so beautiful I can't decide who I want to send them too. I feel like I can't afford to waste them. They must go to someone who will appreciate
the hard work and love that went into designing and sending them to us.

Thank you again. From our hearts to yours...HUGS!

They're Going Fast!

I recieved the box of cards, and they are going fast! Thank you guys so much for all you do - they are beautiful and much appreciated - Thanks!

Can't Say Thank You Enough

Thank you so much for the handmade cards that Operation Write Home provided to our Marines and sailors. This is an absolutely perfect way for our team to remain in touch with their families back home during this deployment. We could tell that a lot of time and effort went into the cards and I can't say thank you enough for your support. Additionally, the letters to the troops were posted on our Company read boards so that all of the Marines and sailors could enjoy their kind words. Thank you again for the cards and for your continued support to all of our troops.

Very respectfully,

Received the box today

Sandy, thank you so much for what you do for Service members with Operation Write Home. I received the box today and we really appreciate it. The newspaper article was great, thanks for sharing and please give Ciara a big tummy rub.

Appreciate it

Sandy, Leslie, Monica, SuzAnn, Kathy, Linda, Eileen, Dee,

Just wanted to take a moment to tell you thanks. Hadn't heard about this until I stopped by the chapel here at Camp Nathan Smith in Kandahar City Afghanistan.
Saw the card and picked up a couple to write home to my wife on.
Didn't realize what it was until this morning when I wrote a note to my wife, in hopes when it arrived at Colorado Springs and she opened it would make her feel good to read it and maybe brighten her day. I
started to close it and noticed the sticker on the back and Googled OWH.
Thanks for what you and your team do.
So many Americans take time out of their lives to help those deployed by doing something like this.
Appreciate it.
Shame someone wasn't doing this during my tour in Viet Nam ages ago.
Yup I've been around a couple of weeks. First as a Soldier now as a Tactical Safety trying to get these guys/gals to take a second and think about safety in this dangerous environment. Will go back down to the chapel and grab a few cards throw in my ruck to take out when I do my circulations to the many out laying camps and out posts.
Good stuff
E. K.

All the cards are lovely

Hello Sandy,

I received the second package and wanted to say many thanks to you. All the cards are lovely. Potentially I will be extending until the end of August, but I think all the cards you have sent will be plenty for everyone. Again thanks for everything! I think what you are doing is

Words are inadequate

Dear Sandy,

Please accept, and pass along, my sincere thanks to the countless individuals who cared enough to make a difference and committed untold hours preparing cards that would be used by deployed soldiers to stay in touch with loved ones back home.

Words are inadequate to express the incredible impact these personalized cards have had, not only on my relationship with my wife (we celebrate 26 years of marriage this fall) but with all three of our grown children.

Because of your sacrifices of time and resources, not only were relationships made stronger but the perspectives of countless deployed soldiers were lifted off the urgent and placed back on the important. And, for this, we cannot thank you enough.

Huge SMILE on my face

Email received by a cardmaker:

I am writing you to Thank you for the cards. I went to the PAX terminal to pick a fellow Soldier up and found a couple cards. I send cards to my husband everyday so this made me put a huge SMILE on my face! :) Just wanted to drop by a quick Thank you.

Thank you,
SGT A. J. G.

You have no idea what a GREAT morale boost they are

From a hero's request for cards...

...We have had a great Commander out here who has been keeping us in steady supply [of cards]. :) She is leaving next week though so I wanted to make sure we kept them coming. You have no idea what a GREAT morale boost they are. Just gives us something to connect us back to our families and friends back home and remind us that there are people in the "real world" that care about us.

Thank you so much for all that you do and Thank you for keeping it all so organized and great!! We appreciate it all!!!

Very respectfully,

Saved for poets

Finally this timely card. I cannot even thank you and Operation Write Home enough. The smiles that your boxes bring to the soldiers of the 4ID HQ are saved for poets, not physicians like myself.

You have made this a familiy affair - your daughter* and puppy take me back to my own home and remind me about what is truly important in this life - friends, family, and loved ones.
Thank you for all you do! You are a true patriot.
MAJ S.P., Surgeon

*I send photos in each box - one was me with a little helper he assumed was my daughter. :) And they always get a Ciara photo in every box out of WA!

I always love to write back

Hello Sandy!
Thank you for your time and support! I'm using the hand-made cards already. Congrats to you for getting out that 1,000,000th card! I've noticed that when we (I) receive cards, most times there aren't addresses on the back. Is that protocol? Reason I'm asking is because I always love to write back! I feel its the least thing I can do. Plus I want the person/people to know that their hard work and cards have been appreciated. You said that you will send more cards in about 5-6 weeks, can we space it out to about 8-10? There are less of us here. Thanks again,

The base gets OWH cards already

How are you? Sorry I haven't written in a while. I moved to another base, and I've just got myself settled in. I was only able to get a few people to sign the card before I left, but the cards went real fast just like last time.
The base I'm at gets OWH cards already, so I should be good for the rest of my tour. I have leave for the US in about 45 days, and I'll be home a couple weeks after that. I can finally look forward to seeing my babies again!
Are you still shipping as many cards? Tell little David "hi" from me and let him know that I still have the Noahs Ark card he made for me.

Paid off

WOW! These cards and letters from home are such a blessing. I am thrilled to see how everyone has been using them because they mean so much more to loved ones than an email. Rest assured your hard work making sure these beautiful cards get out to all the soldiers in the field has paid off.
We love them and cannot thank you and everyone involved enough.
Many thanks,

Sending out one of your cards tonight

Received by a cardmaker:

Good Day,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the box of cards that ended up in my unit's area. The supply of cards is hard to come by here in Iraq and the cards you created are being put to good use. I am sending out one of your cards tonight to my sister for her birthday.

Best wishes,

Your cards make it a lot easier

Greetings Mrs. Sandy

I just wanted to let you know that I received your package of cards on the 4th of July. I am sure that they will be going back to the states very soon from a soldier. Once again please tell your team THANK YOU. There are not enough words to tell you how grateful we are to have an operation like yours. As a Leader I instruct our Soldiers everyday to make sure that they are writing home so that their families are informed. And your cards make it a lot easier for them to do that. So one behalf of me and this company
THANK YOU once again.

This package was a little different in the fact that you enclosed several letters from a local school. I always love to hear from children and their views of a Hero. I just love it. I would like if you could get me that address to the school or if you would be willing to relay anything that I would like to send them. I just want to be able to let them know that their letters arrived to a Soldier here. So just let me know how I could get a letter or message to the schools that participated. Once again thank you

Your Creativity is Revered

Thank you, Dixie for all you and the other volunteers do...and it makes us look so good with the families because the cards come with homemade love! You've got the right address and we have lots of folks here that look forward to those boxes of kids love them and I just want you to know that you guys are appreciated and your creativity is revered over here - sincere thanks!
Col R.C.

We are in need of another box

Sandy, thank you for the box of cards you sent to us, they were absolutely beautiful and well used. They were gone within two weeks. The Service members here really enjoyed writing to their family and friends. We are in need of another box if they are available.

Thanks for you for this effort.

You truly made a difference here!

Dear Operation Write Home,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the beautiful cards we received at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. It is so thoughtful for you all to create these cards for us to send home to our loved ones. I know my family back home will appreciate these cards as much as I do!

Thank you for your selflessness and support. You truly made a difference here! :)
