Operation Mother's Day

One of our heroes sent a wonderful powerpoint presentation with great photos of our heroes writing home their Mother's Day cards! Since we know a lot of folks aren't able to see Powerpoint, we've copied the text in its entirety below, and made a quick slideshow with the images - enjoy!

NOTE: If you click in the upper right of this slideshow box before clicking on the title of the slideshow, it will enlarge the slideshow to full screen.

To all the supporters of Operation Write Home and Turn for the Troops, I would like to say, thank you! My name is SGT Ross, I am a Chaplain Assistant with the12th Regiment, 1st Battalion, Cavalry Division. We are currently deployed in Southern Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn. I didn’t request anything from either of your supporting groups, but the Unit Ministry Team that we replaced had numerous items from both your organizations. So I was grateful to have received so many supplies and resources. The reason for this letter (slides) is to show you that your time, hard work, and care is not in vain. Soldiers where able to mail their Mother’s Day cards back to the States because of you. They were also able to write their notes and messages with some unique and creative wood pens. The Soldiers greatly appreciated all that you do. For supporting troops in Iraq and all our the world. Many of our Soldiers have deployment several times, and there are some on there first. But no matter how many deployments, one thing is always the same. The Love for Our Country, the Love for Our families and the Love for supporters like you. Blessings for Iraq and thanks again. Enjoy the pictures.

While visiting with soldiers located on our two outposts, I would ask this question? So what are you sending home for Mother’s Day. I got the same reply from many Soldiers. I forgot, thanks for reminding me. So, I want to do something personally for the Soldiers knowing that resources are less available on our outposts. And this is what started, what I like to call Operation Mother’s Day.

Deployed to Southern Iraq in support of Operation New Dawn Soldiers send letters of love to their Mothers, Grandmother, Mother-in-Law and Wives for their celebration of Motherhood. This is a day that Soldiers can show their appreciation and love for their love ones back in the States.

At the end on the mission, there was a total of 54 Mother’s Day cards given to Soldiers. I personally mailed 44 cards back to the States. Thanks to the supporters of Operation Write Home. The wood crafted pens that many Soldiers wrote their Mother’s Day message with was supplied by the men and women of Turn for the Troops, seventy-six pens were given. Thank you for all your support. We are very grateful.
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others"- Philippians 2:3-5
Again, Thank you…

SGT Reginald M. Ross, 1-12 CAV – Battalion Chaplain Assistant

As I sit here bawling my eyes out, my heart is swollen with pride for these brave people! It breaks my heart that they can't give their mom's hugs and kisses on Mother's Day. I pray that every mom's heart will be comforted by the card she receives from her loved one!

Thank you ALL for your courage and service!

God puts us where we belong and expects great things from us always. We, in turn, depend on each other to achieve those great things. Great, has many perspectives. A third grade card with mispellings and crooked letters and broken english is just as great as a US Senator shaking your hand on a combat field. So I have learned to thank God for the great little things in my life wherever he sends me and for whomever he puts in my path. I find solace in the smile of fellow human beings no matter what planet I am on, guess what this is the only planet I can be on.
