I managed to get my hands a few of those cards

Thank you all for the beautiful cards that you guys make, it makes it a whole lot better writing home and it’s more special when you know they have been hand made by someone else. I managed to get my hands a few of those cards and that is where I saw the web page on back of one of the cards. Again thank you all and I was wondering how can I get my hands on more of these cards so I can give to the guys that come here as well as the staff? Thank you in advance.

Our Command just got a box of cards

Our Command just got a box of cards. I took three and sent them home to my family. THANK YOU so much for your work. Your cards are a big help and a lot better than the loose-leaf paper I was previously using to write home.

Very respectfully,

Thank You from Kuwait

Kris,

Thank you again so much for the greeting cards, they were a big hit with our service men and women. We actually had some food donated this time, as you can see in the pictures. I am so sorry that I was not able to get shots of people writing in the cards as I had to leave early that day. I hope you have a wonderful day!

Thanks for Your Heart for Soldiers

Hi Dixie,

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for sending lots of
Christmas for our unit.

Connie mentioned to me that she requested cards be sent to us through
you but I didn't expect the quality of the cards to be this good.
They are just amazingly nicely made cards (better than Hallmark's) and
I've distributed them to each company so that they would equally go
around to all Soldiers in our unit.

I am getting excellent feedbacks from Soldiers who got those cards and
my sincere thanks to you for your gracious work for our Soldiers. It
surely brightened our Soldiers and will make their day whoever is there
to receive the cards from our Soldiers. I am sure they would wonder
where we got these nice cards in a combat zone like Afghanistan.

Thanks for your heart for Soldiers and May God bless your ministry!

Happy Thanksgiving and early Merry Christmas to you.

Children in particular love to receive the cards mailed just to them

A note that came with a request form for cards:

I was lucky to share in the OWH cards one of our service members had here in Afghanistan. I'm transferring this month to a new FOB so I requested boxes come to me so I can share them with the new base. I can't tell you how much we appreciate these cards, they mean the world to us and make it easy to jot a quick note to a loved one that is so much more personal than an email. Children in particular love to receive the cards mailed just to them - it keeps them involved. I send monthly cards to my nieces and nephews, they carry them around with them for hours! Thank you and everyone that donates these cards - they mean more than words can say.

Very respectfully,
J.T., US Navy, Afghanistan

Cardmaker's Brother Receives OWH Cards!!

Dixie,
Hello, just wanted to let you and OWH know that I received your card package today, and wanted to thank you very much!! The cards are wonderful and will certainly be enjoyed by the personnel here, and if all of you are like Nicole, then I know that you have been busy but also enjoyed making all those cards, so thank you. We really like how they are divided up into different sections for the different occasions which is really convenient. Thanks again for all of the support and know that the mission of OWH it is greatly appreciated!

Kleenex alert! Welcome a hero's little sweetheart!

A little different post than usual...Daddy, Sgt. J.P., serving in the Army in Iraq, is on the computer screen in the second photo, and the note is from Grandma. Jeremy's proud aunt is Terri D., one of our cardmakers!

We are all still very excited. J. is absolutely thrilled he was able to see the whole birth. They have been doing Skype since he left in July. Skype is just a term, it's basically a web cam and you see each other on your computer. We have been fortunate enough to be able to do it with [his wife] as well. J. has talked to [the baby] throughout the pregnancy. She would put the laptop close to her belly so he could talk to him. It's really special.
Love,
Grandma

All of my fellow marines LOVE them

Thank you so much for the care package with all the cards. All of my fellow marines LOVE them and use them daily to write home to our families. It means so much to us that people like you and your group support us and think of us & pray daily. Thank you for your support. I'm tryin to upload pictures of us with the cards but it is very hard to upload on such slow internet here in Afghan, and I do appologize. Thank you again,

God bless,

Something so simple as a card

Good morning!
We received another box of cards...which was perfect timing! The previous box that was sent to us was empty before we knew it. It is amazing how special something so simple as a card is to a soldier to be able to send home. The families are also thrilled when they receive them. I spoke with my children on the phone the other night and they couldn't stop talking about how cool the cards were that I sent. They asked me how I got them and explained your organization. They thought it was the coolest thing...as do I and all of the soldiers in the 372nd! Also, I used to big into stamping and making cards for special people on special occasions but of course after I had children, I never found the time to stamp. Because I know how special these cards are first hand, when I get home, I plan to start making cards and joining your organization as a volunteer card maker. I am very excited!

We Appreciate Your Support

I just wanted to write you a brief note and let you know that the box with the cards arrived safely here at ..., Afghanistan. The cards look great, and I will get busy writing to my wife and kids as soon as I close out this email. I want to thank you on behalf of myself and the Soldiers that work for me. We appreciate your support, and things like this do make us feel better, even as we are miles from home. Thank you!

Sincerely,

I received your box on Thursday. I was out all day doing another duty and it was a great surprise to come back to and all the cards arrived safely to Bagram, Afghanistan. We have been looking through the cards since we got them and they are slowly going into peoples desks for them to send to their loved ones. I can't believe you have sent over 300. That is amazing and I thank you for all that you do.

The cards are all so pretty and it is a great way to stay in touch. Also, I haven't read the hero mail, but I plan to do it today and I always love hearing from back home. I am going to share them with my office. Today was a slow mail day and it is perfect opportunity for all of us to share the letters.

Thank you again for all of your support. The box of cards has made a number of people smile already.

Be My Valentine BLOGHOP!

Welcome to the Hero Blog stop on the hop hop hop! If you want to hop hop hop from the top top top, then click here to go to the Stars and Stamps blog!

Our heroes are taking part in this hop with some special things to share! This first is a card made by a hero, the husband of a cardmaker, who's now home - is this not the COOLEST card! Sfc C.E. is  soooo talented! He did his own texture embossing and heat embossing on the belt, and the circle inside the pocket is the actual lid of a can of Copenhagen!

Next we have a special gift sent to OWH from one of our recipients....these are contract and military personnel. Yes, we support more than just service members! Our contact came home, so they made a special card with photos of her, as well as photos of the colonel and everyone, signatures from them all....not sure if you can see it, but the notes are typed out below for you.

It's hard to photograph, but the hands in the large image are writing a letter that says:
Operation Write Home, Thanks for your support! We have truly enjoyed the cards you have sent. We appreciate you thinking of us!
Other notes on the left read:
We appreciate you!
Thanks for the amazing cards, they really help us keep in touch with our families!

I stamp cards when I'm not here. Love them - thanks so much!
Best wishes!

God bless you all!
Gracias!
Thanks for your support!
We really appreciate your suppor!
Thanks again for all your amazingsupport!
Tashakoor, closthaagem! (going to guess that's something nice in the local language?)
They also sent a really cool coin! It's big and heavy....and is the first of these ever received by OWH!
There is also a personal note from the Colonel:
I run a small, 25-person office in Kabul where we provide oversight and leadership for about 200 military and civilian contracting officers located throughout the country. Our entire group will spend about $3 billion supporting the U.S. and international effort.
It's a big job trying to get the most out of hard-earned taxpayer dollars, and knowing people like you and your team care enough to take time to provide us with these GREAT cards is important and helps us remember why we do what we do. On behalf of all of us at CENTCOM Contracting Command, I thank you for your patriotism and your contribution.
All the best, Col. B.F., U.S. Army
So...are you inspired!?!?? We've got a little gift for someone who leaves a comment on this post - a cuttlebug embossing folder! Leave some love for our heroes and have a chance to win! Comments made before midnight Sunday Nov 14th are eligible.

The next stop on the hop is Stamp Fairy...you're going to love the adorable digistamp cards!!

"Look at this one!"

Hello Sandy,
We received the box of Christmas cards today. The minute I opened the box soldiers were already looking through all the great cards, holding them up saying "look at this one!" Thank you very much for helping bring some Christmas spirit to Iraq.
Know you and all your card writers are in our prayers, thank you for yours. I hope you are able to get some rest, even before Thanksgiving and Christmas arrives.
When you get a chance, I know the general cards will be loved just as much.
God Bless,
CH (MAJ) B. P. K.

A million and one

I'm sure you get a million thank you's daily, but i wanted to make it a million and one! My husband is presently in Iraq for a 15 month tour. He is the Commander of a medium sized truck company, and he has been sending our family these cards ever since he discovered a box of them in the MWR room on base. (COB SPEICHER) I think he recently wrote to you to request more cards? His name is CPT A.Z.

This deployment has been a very long one, and trying on our family. We have 2 small children who miss him terribly with every breath they take. I personally can't even put into words the loss i feel from his absence.

Your cards arrive in my mailbox almost daily, and instantly brighten my day. The cards make it especially easy for my husband who is extremely busy to write to us. He doesn't have to go the store and search for the perfect card, or a piece of notepaper for writing.

thank you a million times from the bottom of my heart!

Sincerely
J.Z.

The Soldiers and I have greatly appreciated everything you're doing

Hello! Thanks so much for the Thanksgiving and Christmas cards. The Soldiers and I have greatly appreciated everything you're doing for our fellow brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces.

I haven't missed a holiday yet

Dear Sandy,

Thank you and your group for all the cards. I have not written an actual letter in a long time much less send out cards for the holidays, but you have made it so convenient that I haven't missed a holiday yet. Not only that, my morale is lifted because of this. Thank you again.

No reason for us not to send them back to our families

Our hospital chaplain passed on a message with your email address in it so I thought I would write and express my gratitude for your organization's efforts. The cards that were sent are wonderful works of craftsmanship and creativity. Between your organization providing such beautiful cards and there being no postage here when sending letters home, there is no reason for us not to send them back to our families. Thank you so much for your hard work.

MAJ D.F., MHA, MPT, OCS

I totally voted for your cause on JoAnn's

I was just writing to say thank you but since then, the box you sent is almost gone. The soldiers here have been writing home left and right. They are all so impressed and excited about the cards so another box would be fabulous! Thank you so very much!!!! I totally voted for your cause on JoAnn's. I will pass along this email so everyone else can vote as well. I wish you all the luck, as your organization is amazing for us over here in Afghanistan (and everywhere else soldiers are deployed)!
SGT A.S.

I will be sure to have everyone here vote

Sandy, Received the box of cards. Thank you so much for all that your group does. I will be sure to have everyone here vote and send pictures. Thanks again.

We are voting daily for Operation Write Home

Kris,
Literally, two hours after I opened the box of Christmas cards, it's now empty! Thank you so much for the cards. We are voting daily for Operation Write Home at Jo-Ann crafts. God bless America.

Does wonders for our spirits

I can't thank you enough for the amazing box of cards that you sent. It's an incredible gift and does wonders for our spirits!! Please pass along our gratitude to all of those folks who made these beautiful cards. It's such a wonderful service for all of the soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen serving over here. I'll try to send some pictures along soon.
Until then stay well and with many thanks,
D.W.

I pass along the cards

To Operation Write Home,
Thank you so much for your continued support for our troops here at Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan. I pass along the cards, a handful as I can, and they use them to write home from the hospital.
Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication!

I don't begin to know how to thank you

I received some of your cards in a box that my unit received. I don't begin to know how to thank you for giving me a way to stay in touch with my family back home. I am deployed to Iraq and I have family in Pennsylvania. My parents have been helping me raise my daughter which is no easy task being that she is a young college freshman. Your cards have allowed me to thank my parents for their support of me and my daughter. They have also allowed me to send notes to my daughter letting her know that I love her and support her in this new phase of her life. I gave each of my eight soldiers cards for Halloween and it brightened their day and they have posted them on bulletin boards in our office area. I also just sent home cards to my extended family for Thanksgiving. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to have this opportunity to stay connected with loved ones. The cards are absolutely beautifully handcrafted. You can feel the love that was put into each card. I am looking forward to redeploying and crafting cards for family and friends and to donate to your organization. I have been looking for a hobby for some time. So your organization has brightened my life in many ways. I will be deployed until April and if you could send me some more cards they would be greatly appreciated. They will go to good use by allowing me to keep sending personal messages home and by uplifting the spirits of my soldiers and comrades here. Thank you so much for what you are doing.

SSG D. D-H.

1 hour later the box was TOTALLY EMPTY

I wanted to tell you how big of a hit the Christmas Cards were!! It was amazing--I work in the Al-Faw Palace in Baghdad--I put a box of cards out in the common area. I went to my office and when I went back by the common area 1 hour later the box was TOTALLY EMPTY!!! The cards were beautiful and so greatly appreciated. Thank you again for sending them to us.

Sincerely,
D.C.

Daddy is thinking of them

My husband has been on his this deployment in Iraq since October of 2009 (Army and his 4th deployment). He is due home in Feb 2011. He has been writing home a lot on the Operation Write Home cards and for this, I thank you!
We have 6 young children and they LOVE receiving these special hand made cards! It is such a wonderful way for the children to know that Daddy is thinking of them, and it encourages the children to write back! AWESOME!
Please keep this program going, it is a huge success and morale builder!

Running to the mailbox

Dear Sandy,

I wanted to thank you for the cards you sent for soldier's here in Afghanistan. Every time I've deployed I have tried to send regular cards and or letters to my wife and children. Even though we have internet
these days, there is just something more personal and special in a card or letter. My children I know have had many smiles running to the mailbox to retrieve the regular letters and cards I sent. I have sent
many-many of your cards, almost to the tune of one a day for the last couple months. My wife and children comment that they get one nearly every day at the mailbox. I hope you find comfort in knowing that the
cards you sent are very much appreciated and put smiles on the faces of two very grateful boys and a wife who was able to receive constant communication in a special way from her husband, who she has seen deploy far too many times in the past 20 years. So, thank you and what you do speaks volumes for the type of person you are. God Bless,

SFC W.S.

Everyone that wants one on the ship can pick one up

I have received a box of cards from you and I’m very grateful for such. A large number of them have been passed out in my department and everyone appreciates the cards and thinks the idea behind them is fantastic. I’ve put them in the reactor department office for everyone to pick up. I came to the reactor plant master chief with the cards for ideas on how to go about distributing them and as of right now they’re in the office, however I plan on mailing the LPO of the mess decks here soon so that we can possibly get a table off on the side of the mess deck and lay them all out so everyone that wants one on the ship can pick one up on their way by. Also, I wouldn’t doubt the reactor master chief contacting you to thank you as well, if he hasn’t already done so. So on behalf of my department and ship, I thank you for your service you provide to our sailors.

Sincerely,
ET3 S.W.

They are really high quality

Ma'am,

We received your box of cards last week. I can't tell you how happy everyone is to have the cards and how beautiful the cards are. They are really high quality. It's so nice to know that people put such effort into creating them for us.  Thank you so much.

Respectfully,
