My kids and I looked forward to checking the mail every day

From the wife of a naval commander who received cards from us last year; he’ll be redeploying soon, so we’ll send more:

To all of the Cards for Heroes volunteers,

My children and I got such pleasure from receiving the cards crafted by you during my husband’s last deployment, and we treasure each one. Thank you so much for all of your hard work and your skill. My kids and I looked forward to checking the mail every day, and when there was a card, we all sat on the couch and opened the cards and admired each one as we passed them around. My husband always wrote a beautiful note in mine and drew photos in the kids’ cards. I’m sure that having the cards so easily accessible helped prompt him to write even more than he normally would have! He always put cards out in the squadron’s public spaces so that the rest of the officers and sailors could choose their favorites, too. Mail is such an important way to stay connected during a deployment, and your role is critical. Your work brightened many of our days. Thank you, thank you, thank you for making it easier for military families to communicate. We appreciate you!

Best wishes,
Alison Buckholtz
